CARSON  - Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Carson's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 11/11 - Carson's mouthiness presented when he and I got out together today, but a quick "uh-uh" and Carson quickly gave up on that (for the day).
  • 11/12 - Today, when we returned from the walk, he was super eager to play with me and in his excitement, he got mouthy again. He's incredibly gentle with it (so far), but is definitely presenting the behavior. He's been response to "uh-uh" and "gentle" and will stop as soon as you utter one of those phrases, although when he's being playful, he quickly forgets and will try again. We'll continue to work with him on this!
  • 11/15 - Carson is still excitable and eager to play but a verbal "uh-uh", "gentle" or "no mouth" command and he will sit and wait for permission to engage in play again. He's such a good boy.
  • ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • 7/9 - Carson is settling in quite nicely. He was definitely nervous the first couple of days, but it didn't hamper his appetite, which is always a good sign! He was a little nervous around Jen at first yesterday, but just wary. Within a few minutes, he warmed up and was seeking pets and general attention. He has even started engaging in play with her in the run!
  • 7/12 - Carson is out in the full pack and doing incredibly well! He's barking a bit much in his excitement to engage in play, which is intimidating to some of the dogs, but responding fairly well to verbal correction to be quiet, while building his confidence in interactions. He met Mark's nephew today (through the fence), who arrived in full motorcycle gear. Carson did a bit of barking, but responded fairly well to verbal correction and a quick squirt from the hose to "quiet". After that, he sniffed at Nick's gloves and did incredibly well for meeting a stranger in strange clothes through the fence!
  • 7/16 - Carson is continuing to do well in the pack. He's currently learning that he's a big dog, often playing with smaller dogs, so we are working "gentle" pretty heavily right now. He's gotten more comfortable in the office and is becoming more vocal, so we are now being provided the opportunity to work "quiet" more readily as well.
  • 7/19 - Carson is doing better with listening to "Quiet", although we still have some work to do with reinforcing the concept. He's doing a much better job out in the pack, paying better attention to his size. He's also calmed a bit in his play, engaging for a bit and then walking away and reengaging later. He's self-controlling/self-calming as he watches the other dogs get too worked up and receive corrections. Smart boy is learning through observation!
  • 7/23 - Carson is rocking his socialization and has even started engaging in play with the bigger dogs now! He is barking less in the office and is quicker to appropriately respond to "Quiet."
  • 7/29 - Carson continues to work on "Quiet" in the office at times, but it doing much better and responds quicker. His obedience is improving but he can be stubborn at times and pushes until he gets the stern command. His socialization skills are great. We worked gentle alot since he loves the Beagle puppy Wrigley and now we are telling Wrigley to be gentle more often than Carson!
  • 7/30 - Carson had a good walk, for the most part today. He passed some dogs barking at their fence line and did very well listening to "Leave-It" with Mark. We passed people in the park without any issue. Carson only showed curiosity in the people that we passed. Towards the end of the walk, however, we passed a lady on the sidewalk that he jumped up at and received corrections from Mark for. The rest of the walk he was extremely well behaved. He continues to do extremely well in the pack with his socialization. He likes to challenge boundaries and authority with his basic obedience skills and often a stern command on the second or third attempt is needed for him to know that you are serious and not playing a game when giving commands.\
  • 8/2 - Carson had his best walk yet! Much better with heeling and "Leave-It". We passed a dog on leash that was growling at Carson, causing him to stop in his tracks. He was told to "Leave-It" as we crossed the street and he did very well, not even looking back at the other dog. We passed a number of stroller and joggers in the park, with a solid "Leave-It", Carson walked on by without a second thought. We passed a dog barking behind a fence line. Carson wanted to run up to the fence and received a slight correction for not following "Leave-It." He responded immediately and was very obedient. Lastly, we came up to a stranger who really wanted to engage with Carson. She took her time and followed Mark's directions. Carson was very unsure and it took a while for him to let his guard down under Mark's watchful eye, but after a few minutes, he allowed her to pet him for quite a while and receive lots of praise and affections from his trainers as well. Great work!
  • 8/3 - Building on our breakthrough walk yesterday, Carson worked an appointment with another client's reactive dog on the Waterfront. This was his best outing yet!! Zero reactivity towards people, or dogs, and it was super busy. We walked the entire West side, through the back of Saturday Market and back again. He even finished the session off with pets from the Client! Yay Carson!!!!
