Dakine  - Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Dakine's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 6/29 - Dakine is working on adjusting to the new environment. He's done some barking and growling at other dogs as they have passed his crate. However, out in the run with Mark or Jen, he's happy and eager for pets and attention!
  • 6/30 - Dakine had an outburst with the dog in the crate next to him today over some food that she still had in her dish. He's also been growling and occasionally barking at dogs passing his crate, intermittently. He's received some verbal corrections and some squirts from the spray bottle as a result.
  • 7/1 - We've had some new dogs come into the office and Dakine has not been as vocal towards them, nor had any more outbursts at feeding time. Progress! He had a great time in the run today playing with the jolly ball as well.
  • 7/3 - Dakine and his neighbor Luna got at one another again in their crates. So, we moved Dakine to see how he would do with different neighbors. So far, so good! We haven't had any other outbursts from him.
  • 7/6 - Dakine continues to do well in his new location and has had many dogs pass by over the weekend without any issues.
  • 7/7 - Dakine continues to grow in comfort with Mark and Jen, however, he's still barking at Mark's wife and son whenever they come into the office. We will continue to work on his comfort and confidence in that arena. He's been really good with dogs passing by him the last couple of days and will hopefully get out with Mark's dogs to work more dog socialization this week!
  • 7/8 - Dakine was growling at Mark's wife again in the office, so we worked "Leave-It" and "Quiet" with him. He's definitely nervous as he growls, but also shows signs of interest and excitement. He's been great around the other dogs in the office today, passing their crates and sniffing at them without any issues. One dog, Mango, seems to have him pretty interested in saying hello.
  • 7/10 - Dakine grows in confidence, going up at sniffing calmly at a number of other dogs in the office. At one point today, when going out to the bathroom, Mark's dog Drogo was in the yard (on the other side of one of our fences) and Dakine ran out, to the fence to sniff and then quickly moved along without any issues.
  • 7/14 - Dakine got out in the run with Mark's dogs, Rodeo and Drogo, today and did very well! He started on leash as introductions were made and graduated to being off leash with them in the run. He was very nervous and drooly, but didn't have any negative reactions towards them and took his time to say hi and mingle a bit. Great work!
  • 7/15 - Dakine finally stopped growling at Mark's wife and was happy to see her and get some pets today! He also played a rousing game of fetch with Jen.
  • 7/18 - Mark's nephew visited over the weekend, whom Dakine had seen in the office before and barked/growled at. This weekend, he got out with Mark's nephew in the run and was all love and wiggles. Excellent progress there!
  • 7/21 - Dakine continues work with Rodeo and Drogo. He did fairly well today, although he got a bit possessive of Jen and growled slightly at Drogo, earning him a correction from the hose. After that, he applied avoidance techniques for a while, refusing to engage with the boys, but towards the end of his time, he was sharing space and smells with them again.
  • 7/22 - Dakine had a stellar pack walk today with office mate, Sauron. We passed lots of dogs and people and Dakine didn't have any negative responses to any of it!
  • 7/24 - Another stellar walk today with buddy Sauron. We passed and were passed by people, dogs, bicycles and scooters today and with a preemptive "Leave-It", Dakine would look, then ignore and continue walking. He was a total rockstar, even passing houses and yards with barking dogs. So proud of the boy! His confidence has grown immensely, along with his listening skills and general attentiveness.
