Hoagie  - Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Hoagie's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 1/19/21 - Hoagie is settling in to his new surroundings, and is beginning to open up to us. At first, he was very nervous, and would growl when we approached his crate. We have been giving him lots of reassurance, treats, and space while he is feeling unsure. Yesterday, he let his guard down, approaching us for pets and engaging in play! He loves carrying his fluffy ball to and from the training area, and is now showing interest in interacting. Way to go, Hoagie!
  • 1/26/22 - Hoagie has been doing a great job on his training walks, and is even willingly leaving his stuffed ball behind! He showed some initial nervousness, but with reassurance was able to gain confidence. We have observed his leash reactivity when approached by other people and dogs, and are working on correcting this behavior and teaching him to manage these reactions. He is still reluctant to interact with the other dogs directly, but is showing interest (and even tail wags) when meeting our trainer dogs through the fence and in his crate. Excellent progress, Hoagie!
  • 2/2/22 - Hoagie crossed a major milestone this week - working on his socialization with trainer dog Drogo! He was initially reactive to Drogo (growling, snapping), but was very responsive to correction, and was able to control his initial response to react. He even began showing interest in Drogo, and approached him for sniffs and said hello! We began the introduction on leash, in order to gauge his cues and readiness, and were able to graduate to dropping the leash. Way to go, Hoagie! He did a great job learning a new response, and seeing that Drogo wasn't a threat and the trainers would keep him safe. We will continue these introductions in the coming days to build his confidence.
  • 2/9/22 - Hoagie continues to work on his socialization skills, graduating to full off-leash sessions with Drogo! He is still showing a fear-based aggressive response initially, and occasionally when he feels triggered, and we are working with him on these reactions. He has not yet engaged Drogo in play, but is showing interest in sniffing and introductions. He definitely still has a ways to go in this area, but is really working hard to overcome his insecurity. He is also showing significant improvement in his confidence on leash. Way to go, Hoagie!
  • 2/16/22 - Hoagie has been working hard on his leash walking skills, and it shows! He still experiences initial reactivity when confronted with triggers, but is very responsive to correction, and is able to continue without any escalation. We are so proud of his progress!
