Larry  - Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Larry's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 9/16/21 - Larry is settling in to his new surroundings, and is already warming up to trainers Mark and Morgan! He did a good job on his first training walk, and really enjoyed the new surroundings. We did observe his reactivity on-leash, and will focus on correcting this. We have also seen aggressive behaviors towards other dogs, both while in his crate and when moving throughout the pack area, and we will focus on correcting this as well.
  • 9/20/21 - Larry is working on his obedience skills, and is enjoying getting to know us and exploring the training area! He continues to be very reactive towards the other dogs, both from within his crate, and also when moving through the shared area. We are working on teaching him the "quiet" command, as well as "Leave It" when he is reactive. He is already very responsive to the training collar, and is super excited for his walks!
  • 9/25/21 - Larry is continuing to display aggression towards other dogs while in his crate, but is learning to ignore them when moving through the shared area. This is great progress! He is most reactive as well when food is involved, and we are working to correct this behavior as well. We have now observed his reactivity on leash, and are correcting this behavior as well. He is showing good responsiveness to instruction and correction, and loves running about the training area and going on walks!
  • 10/2/21 - Larry crossed a big milestone today, having a successful introduction with trainer dog Drogo! He showed some nervousness and uncertainty, and displayed a but of aggression, but was very responsive to correction. He has had a bit of a setback lately, once again wanting to attack other dogs in their crates when moving through the shared area, which we believe is a dominant behavior due to some newcomers having recently joined the pack. We are working to correct this behavior. He is doing very well on his walks with the training collar!
  • 10/6/21 - Larry is coming along with his socialization, getting out with an additional pack member today. He displayed mostly avoidant and nervous behavior, not desiring to interact with the other dogs, but showing no aggressive behaviors either. We offered him lots of reassurance and praise for tolerating the other dogs' presence. He is doing much better with corrections around attacking the other dog crates, and had a perfect training walk yesterday, responding to verbal corrections and showing no reactivity. Way to go, Larry!
  • 10/12/21 - Larry has shown some leash reactivity, as well as crate reactivity, over the past few days, and we believe this is again triggered by newcomers to the pack. This is an important piece of information to note as we work with his issues going forward - Larry is very recalcitrant when it comes to "new" or unknown dogs in his space, and this also tends to "trigger" his problem behaviors, even those which were previously resolved. Consistency with corrections and boundaries is crucial in these instances.
  • 10/18/21 - Larry spent some time in the pack with Jack and Drogo, and did a great job. He is still largely avoidant of other dogs in general, and is very rear-shy (wanting to sniff other dogs, but not wanting them to sniff him). He did show some interest in Jack, and even let Jack check him out a bit! We encouraged him with lots of love and praise.
  • 9/20/22 - Larry & Bob playing, and getting along. Had to correct Larry a couple of times early in their stay, but since then he has been better with Bob. In defense of Larry, Bob can be pretty obtuse and not get that he is starting to annoy. Larry still has a sharp reaction to dogs, but again, this has largely gotten under control in the office area, as dogs pass him by.
  • 9/23/22 - "Hey Bob! Let's play and roll around in the sun together!" Bob and Larry are having a great time and loving the sunshine!
  • 12/26/22: Bob is doing great! He walked passed other dogs, and people with ease. Bob appears to be more comfortable walking on the right side vs on the left.
  • 12/26/22: Larry did well on his walk today, when walking past other dogs and people he had great eye contact with me and walked next to me the entire time. Showed excellent door manners!
  • 12/27/22: Bob & Larry having a BLAST!
