Lila Learns to Trust
Lila, a little German Shepherd, came to me from rescue with severe fear and insecurity issues. Her main behavioral problem was pulling on the leash, so our walks together were frustrating battles instead of opportunities for bonding.
Mark's class gave her positive socialization, challenge and consistency as I had hoped. He was very sensitive to her insecurities, and he gave me lots of tips and observations. We not only learned new skills, but Lila has been growing in confidence. These are all things you would hope for in a good training class.
However Mark is also an observer of behavior, and he was the experienced set of eyes I needed to tell me where Lila and I were failing to communicate - or communicating the wrong things. He taught us how to walk together, how important my own confidence and leadership are to her security, and how she can be happier and more relaxed while walking at my side on a LOOSE leash - something I thought was impossible! Mark's guidance completely and immediately changed our dynamic on walks.
The most important thing Mark taught me is how to see my own behavior through Lila's eyes. Simple things like my body language when walking through a doorway, my voice when "asking" her to do something, and especially keeping myself calm and centered. His teaching style demonstrates what your dog sees, hears and feels, as if he's the translator between human and dog.
I completely recommend Mark's [Foundations] Basic Obedience class, and look forward to joining his Advanced class.
