Remus  - Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Remus' Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 11/15 - Remus is starting to warm up. He's done well with getting out and being in the run and returning to his crate, showing no signs of aggression yet. Today, he even backed his butt into Jen for some butt pets!
  • 11/18 - Remus is out in the full pack now and doing well with everyone. He hasn't shown any aggression towards anyone in the office and has become quite friendly. Our walk today went well, although we didn't encounter anyone due to the rain. He did show a little resource guarding around his food this morning with Mark's dog Drogo, so that is something we'll be keeping an eye on and addressing as well.
  • 11/19 - Remus had a great walk today. We did a pack walk, where he went out with little buddy, Arya. He did much better with his "Heel" today, although we still have a bit of work to do there. He got very excited seeing a dog coming up the sidewalk, but we worked on "Leave-It" to disengage and refocus on the pack leader. We passed 3 kids in super close proximity today and he did an excellent "Leave-It" and completely ignored them. We passed a guy crossing the street and Remus did pull to sniff at the guy. He wasn't aggressive about it, but we will still continue to work the "Leave-It" and generally following directions. My phone doesn't take good pictures in low light, so we'll have to take another pack walk in better light to capture that adventure.
  • 11/20 - Another good pack walk today. Remus did very well for the majority of the walk. We did pass a fence line with barking dogs and Remus lost composure and lunged towards them, earning him a quick correction. (These are tough situations for most dogs, so no surprise there). Then we passed some construction workers on the sidewalk and he listened to my preemptive "Leave-It" and completely ignored them as we passed, earning some well deserved praise!
  • 11/22 - Remus has become happy and playful with Mark and Jen. Now that he is bonded and comfortable, his aggression is starting to slip in more. Out in the run with Drogo, Remus got possessive of Jen and went after Drogo, earning him some corrections. He is definitely showing possessiveness and resource guarding now. Now that the behaviors are showing, the real work begins!
  • 11/25 - Remus had a good walk today. He is doing a great job healing and listening to directions, for the most part. He is listening to "Leave-It" pretty solidly when it comes to passing people on the walk, but struggling more with listening to "Leave-It" when it comes to dogs. He is exhibiting more sign of aggression with certain dogs more than people so far. He targeted a dog in the park and wouldn't break focus with "Leave-It", earning him a small correction. When a new dog came into the office today, he lost his cool and started lunging and biting towards the dog from the crate, earning some corrections with the spray bottle. We will continue to work this burgeoning issue.
  • 11/27 - We tried to get Remus out with the "new dog", Jax, today, in the run with Remus on leash. When Jax came over to say hi, Remus lost it and started lunging, barking, snarling, etc. as Jax, earning him some corrections for his aggressive behavior. On the flip side, he's rocking his walks. We passed numerous people and dogs today and he did extremely well listening to "Leave-It" and ignoring both people and dogs, even in close proximity.
  • 12/2 - We got a new dog in the office today, a 6 month old puppy. Remus did a great job greeting the puppy at his crate. No growling or barking and even wagged his tail a little. However, after a short time of the puppy being placed in the crate next to him, he started growling at the puppy and received some verbal corrections to "Leave-It." He also showed some resource guarding towards the puppy over a bone (which they each had one in their crates).
  • 12/3 - Remus has been doing so incredibly well with his walks and today was certainly no exception! There was a lady in a wheelchair walking her dog with her caregiver in front of us. They were taking up the sidewalk and the caregiver recognized someone coming up the sidewalk. They started dancing around and there was just a lot of general commotion. Remus and I walked on in the street, next to them, since they were taking up the whole side walk. Remus was very interested in what was going on, but a firm "Leave-It" and he looked at me and then passed the whole thing without a glance back. Fantastic work! We came across 3 little dogs ferociously barking at their fence line later. This is one of the hardest things for dogs to deal with. Remus tried to lunge at them and received a slight correction and a firm "Leave-It" command. He then proceeded to calmly and slowly walk past the dogs while they were attacking each other and the fence with us walking past, without any further incident. We finished in a sit on the other side of the fence with tons of praise for some very great listening! Remus is responding extremely well to the "Leave-It" command for handling his impulse control!
  • 12/6 - We got a couple of new dogs in the office again today and at various times they have gone up to Remus and his crate to say hello. Remus has done an excellent job greeting them, showing no aggression, but tail wags instead. A great sign! He's also doing increasingly better with his impulse control, with a firm "Leave-It". His first couple of weeks here, he consistently wanted to attack the water from the hose, but is now responding 100% to "Leave-It" and getting tons of praise for a job well done!
  • 12/9 - Remus is rocking his walks! He is listening extremely well to "Leave-It" both with squirrels, the hose and strangers and only needs a few occasional verbal reminders to "Heel". We've been passing tons of people on our walks. Sometimes he will sniff at someone and other times he completely ignores them. He receives tons of pets and praise every time he successfully "Leaves-It" with a person, animal or thing and just soaks up the positive reinforcement!
  • 12/10 - Remus has been going out with little buddy Thatcher for the past few days, who he initially showed resource guarding with, and has been doing very well with him. He's no longer showing signs of aggression towards the little guy and seems happy to share the space with him, and even the trainers!
  • 12/11 - Remus has been having a blast with his little buddy Thatcher the past couple of days and today he started to share the water bowl without any signs of resource guarding. Excellent job Remus!!!
