Wally  - Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Wally's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 2/7 - Wally growled and barked at Jen first thing this morning when she came into the office. She told him no and to sit, which he obediently did. The next time she passed by the crate, his tail was wagging. They went out into the run together multiple times throughout the day and within no time he was cuddled up asking for pets and eventually even those sweet belly rubs. Good start!
  • 2/10 - Wally is adjusted to the space and doing well with both Mark and Jen. He met Mark's nephew over the weekend and was tentative and did a bit of grumbling and nominal barking, but eventually grew more curious than worried and would occasionally sniff at him on the sly. He's out playing with the pack now and having a blast with the other dogs.
  • 2/11 - Wally continues to get more comfortable, playful and affectionate. He's still barking at the fence line as strangers walk by, especially men, so we are working hard on "Leave-It" and "Quiet." He's been incredibly patient and kind with a nippy little puppy that he's thoroughly enjoying playing with.
  • 2/14 - Wally continues to bond with Mark and Jen. He is still giving some barks and grumbles and Mark's son when he comes into the office. He is excellent out with the pack and has great social skills and cue awareness.
  • 2/19 - Wally is barking less in the office at the various sounds he hears outside and is becoming more responsive to both the "Quiet" and "Leave-It" commands. A client and her dog came up to the gate before we had gone inside and Wally ran up and behaved extremely well, with no adverse reactions to the stranger or her dog and then immediately came when called.
  • 2/24 - Wally continues his improvement with barking, "Quiet" and "Leave-It." He is having an excellent time playing with the various members of the pack and takes his enthusiasm for time with Jen to a whole new level with using his mouth to hold on to her jacket and trying to crawl into her lap!
  • 2/25 - Wally had a good walk today, working with both Jen and Mark. He does some pulling and wants to do what he wants to do, which we will continue to work on, but he did very well with various stimuli, between others walking dogs, bicycles riding past and various joggers he encountered today!
  • 3/3 - Wally had a good walk today. Upon preparing to leave, the mail person showed up and Wally did some barking at her. It took a couple of corrections for him to stop and focus on me. After that, he did incredibly well. We are still working on his "heel" and general focus a bit during the walk, but it has definitely improved. We passed numerous folks on the sidewalk today and with a preemptive "Leave-It" he calmly walked by and would just stick his nose out to sniff them a bit in passing.
  • 3/6 - Wally is certainly comfortable here and is starting to come full circle with his barking when he hears something he thinks he should warn him about. This is giving us a chance to work on "Quiet" and "Leave-It" some more. He's having an absolutely fantastic time in the pack and hasn't met a dog he doesn't like yet. In fact, he's been helping to pull some of they shy guys out of their shells. It's adorable!
  • 3/9 - Wally is doing a better job of listening to "Leave-It." A new dog came into the pack who has some territorial responses, like barking at the mail-person, inciting Wally to follow suit. However, a firm "Leave-It" and Wally stops immediately. Mark's nephew stopped by over the weekend and Wally did an excellent job keeping his composure!
  • 3/10 - Wally had a stellar walk today! He walked with Mark to pick up his son Liam, passing many people and dogs without any issues. He also played a bit of fetch in the park with Liam and gladly accepted a few pets from the kid!
  • 3/11 - Today, the mailperson showed up and told the pack they were doing a great job not barking and making progress, then held her hand up to the fence for them to sniff! Everyone sniffed at her hand calmly and didn't make a peep! Great work! This is the first time Wally has stayed calm and appropriate with the mailperson!
  • 3/14 - Mark's nephew visited the office again and Wally started growling. He got a correction from Mark, was allowed to process for a second and then after a few minutes, came out of his crate and sat next to Mark's nephew and received pets and praise for being a brave, well behaved boy and making a much better choice!
  • 3/17 - Wally did a good job greeting Josh (and Josh reported he did well at the vet). Wally is no longer barking or lunging at people. He will give a grumble, which will stop with a quick verbal correction of "Quiet" or "Leave-It". Then, with confidence and warmth, knowing that he is safe, he can be encouraged to greet the new person and receive lots of love and praise for a job well done!
  • 3/18 - Wally went on a pack walk with buddy Beto today and did fairly well. He did bark once at a lady coming out of her house, but a quick correction and he was a good boy the remainder of the walk.
