Beto  - Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Beto's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 2/18 - Beto is warming up and acclimating to the new environment. He's now eager to be out and receive pets and affection from both Mark and Jen.
  • 2/19 - Beto has been doing very well in the office around the other dogs. He will go up to their crates and sniff at them without any adverse reaction. Another dog aggressive dog growled and snarled at him, at one point, and Beto completely ignored him and walked away. No retaliation. Later in the day, he attempted to sniff at the same dog and they both were calm, cool and collected.
  • 2/24 - Beto got out on leash today with Mark's dogs Rodeo and Drogo. He was incredibly nervous and still showed signs of aggression, but after a few minutes her started to compose himself a bit. Still, incredibly nervous and will be taking it slow for a while to allow him to get comfortable with the boys.
  • 3/2 - Beto continues his gradual work with Rodeo and Drogo. He's still intensely nervous with them, but showing improvement. Today, he allowed Drogo to do a normal dog sniff of his rear end. He was tense, but kept it together and was rewarded with lots of praise for a job well done! He met nose to nose with both boys a few times without issue, but again, still with a lot of tension and intensity. We will continue to work this to help him gain confidence.
  • 3/4 - A big milestone for Beto today! He graduated to the next challenge: the full pack. He got out with a basket muzzle on and was introduced in the run to the entire pack! He had a few moments of excitability and posturing, which were quickly squashed. He was definitely nervous and unsure on how to continually be greeted by so many dogs at first, but after awhile he started gaining confidence in knowing that he was safe and things were under control. For a brief instant, he even attempted to engage in play with another dog. Huge step in the right direction for sweet Beto today. We are so proud of him!
  • 3/6 - Beto has been play bowing at a couple of the dogs in their crates, when he is free in the office. He's definitely starting to signal some healthier interest in some of our other pack members and we are hoping to get him out with one of two of them soon!
  • 3/9 - Beto got out in the full pack again, with the basket muzzle. He did really well and was allowed to be off leash with the group. He only had one moment of intensity/overexcitability, which was quickly addressed. He calmed down and instantly reengaged in a much more appropriate way. He was still a bit nervous when getting smelled by other dogs, but much more comfortable in general and even toyed with the idea of play a few times.
  • 3/10 - Beto took the next step today and got out in the full pack without the muzzle! There were a couple of moments where he got a little overly excited, but overall did an excellent job and even self corrected a few times, pulling back from play and observing how the other dogs were doing it so he could model after them. Super proud of the sweet boy!
  • 3/11 - Beto is a full on member of the pack and out with them whenever they are out. He is doing well and exploring the concept of play more. He is still a little bossy at times, but responds well to correction. Today, the mailperson showed up and even in the pack, Beto didn't bark. In fact, the brave mailperson even told the pups they were doing a great job not barking and making progress, then held her hand up to the fence for them to sniff! Everyone, including Beto, sniffed at her hand, calmly and didn't make a peep!
  • 3/14 - Beto continues to do well out in the full pack. He is improving with his pack interactions, gaining confidence and learning how to play little by little.
  • 3/17 - Beto still gets a little overstimulated in play, as he's trying to get a better grasp on it. However, he is doing an excellent job of disengaging on command, if he hears "Gentle" or "Leave-It". He does a great job of listening and taking a step back to recompose himself before jumping back in and trying again.
  • 3/18 - Beto went on a pack walk with buddy Wally today. He did pretty well. He whined a bit with other dogs passing on leash, so we worked on "Leave-It" when passing others. Overall, a pretty good walk!
  • 3/22 - Beto has been doing a stellar job in the pack. He's been much more controlled in his interactions with the pack and more importantly, he's been "Johnny on the spot" with listening to feedback from the trainers. We introduced a dog aggressive chihuahua to the pack this weekend and Beto has done an incredible job of attempting to interact but also reading the room!
  • 3/24 - A new pack member joined the pack and Beto has done an excellent job, with only a few simple reminders, to manage his energy and let her adjust. She decided to engage in play later today and Beto did an amazing job of mirroring her style and not being overbearing. So proud!
