CORNBREAD  - Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking CORNBREAD's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 7/29 - CB is out in the big pack and doing well. His first couple days took some continual reminding to be gentle as he can be a bit rambunctious in his play style. Today he did extremely well and we had to remind the Beagle puppy to be gentle more often than CB!
  • 7/31 - CB is doing well in his play. We did have an incident today, where an aggressive dog we are working with in the pack lunged at the Beagle puppy during some resource guarding. As he was receiving a correction from Mark, CB decided he wanted to jump in and try to get at the aggressive dog, earning him corrections from Mark as well. After that, he did extremely well playing in the pack and listening to commands from Mark and Jen.
  • ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • 8/20 - CB is doing some minimal grumbling and barking at other dogs in the office.
  • 8/21 - CB is adjusting to the environment and sharing space with many other dogs without grumble. Quick study!
  • 8/24 - CB got out into the full pack today! He was extremely nervous and aloof at first, but started to warm up and actively sought play with pack member Bixby. After a while, he started engaging with the others as well. See video!
  • 8/25 - CB is still acting a bit aloof at times in the pack, but is behaving okay. Made great friends with Pretzel, another dog working aggression issues. Great work! CB is still sassy with recall and will jump the temporary fence between the dog run and the backyard. Definitely needs continued work in this area!
  • 8/28 - Great walk today! CB has a great heel! He would get excited to check something out and a snap of the finger or "shh" would get him to fall right back into step. He did well with "Leave-It." Needs work on sitting when told to at intersections.
  • 9/1-9/10 - CB is doing so well now with all his socialization work within the pack. We haven't had any CB outbursts towards any of the dogs for the last couple days, and he is deferring to my big boy, Drogo - taking direction of play and how intense it should be. He hasn't been overly domineering, nor aggressive with anyone, and it has been a delight to watch his realization that he doesn't need to be on guard all the time. He is acting more like a happy puppy.
That said, he is still a teenager with a desire to challenge with listening skills, or lack thereof at times. That will remain throughout the remainder of his adolescence, which is normal for dogs his age. Overall his attitude, and being unpleasant when he doesn't like something, has improved greatly, but it will be important that we continue to work together after his return to keep him on this path.
