Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Ellie's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 8/19 - Ellie is starting to adjust to the new location, but is still a bit nervous. She hasn't gone to the bathroom in the dog run, but she got out for a walk with Jen today and relieved herself then. A great first step! She had an excellent walk with immediate challenges. She had an offleash dog come up behind her and continually try to sniff her, but she listened to Jen's "Leave-It" and just kept walking. In the same vein, barking dogs charged the fence and she listened again to "Leave-It" and walked past perfectly. She was rewarded with lots of love and praise as she is obviously eager to please. She has a wonderful heel as well and did very well with the Sit command while out on the walk!
  • 8/20 - Ellie is still refusing to use the run for her bathroom needs, but will relieve herself on her walk. She is nibbling at the kibble. Still not eating a full amount, although she loves her probiotics, but at least she's starting to show more signs of adjusting to the space. Another excellent walk today with more dogs barking and fences and good "Leave-Its". We did have one instance where she lunged at another dog on leash. She's a big girl, so I can understand how if you aren't expecting that, it would be easy to lose balance. Luckily, I saw the dog coming and had good hold. The good news is that it wasn't an aggressive lunge, but eagerness to say hello. However, she did not listen to my preemptive "Leave-It". It's good that she's showing this stuff early though, as it will give plenty of opportunity to work the issues!
  • 8/21 - Ellie got out with our current pack today: Rodeo, Drogo and Jake. She did an excellent job! She was a little nervous at first when the others would go to sniff her, but adjusted quickly and joined in on the occasional sniff herself. She did so well with everyone that I extended her pack social time. We worked in the run with the gang for awhile and then we all went into the yard, where Ellie helped me with yardwork and casually hung out with the pack. We all spent well over an hour and a half together without any issues.
  • 8/23 - Ellie has gotten out with new, additional pack members, Abby and Amica. She is doing extremely well! No issues whatsoever and is getting braver by the day! She's also eating more now and going to the bathroom in the run!
  • 8/26 - Ellie has met another new dog, Moses and has taken a liking to him. She is showing signs of wanting to engage in play with him, but hasn't quite taken the leap yet. She and Moses went on a pack walk today and she did extremely well, still adhering to all of her obedience commands and listening like a champ! Ellie is now up to almost a full cup of kibble per meal that she is eating and she is going to the bathroom in the run, repeatedly, showing that she is now settled into the pack and environment. Such a good girl! She's also LOVING the kiddie pool as she plays, sits and even lies down in the water!\
  • 8/27 - Another excellent day of socialization and meeting new friends. Ellie met new to her Live-In Client, Kona and did very well with meeting and greeting. Kona can be a bit up in dog's faces, like Drogo, and Ellie handled it perfectly, keeping her cool and subtly communicating her preference that he give her a bit more space. Excellent work Ellie girl!
  • 8/28 - 9/9 - Updates via phone with Mark while Jen was out of state.
  • 9/10 - Ellie is out and socializing very well with the pack. She's very interested in the play of others, though prefers to engage from the outside and not be in the middle of the rough and tumble stuff.
  • 9/11 - Ellie had a rockstar day! She greeted another dog on leash perfectly! She also worked her long line recall in the park along with Sit/Stay and nailed it! She only tried to bolt once, when told "free", but only made it to the end of the long line before being told to "come" and quickly obeying. Excellent work!
