Nico and Leo  - Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Nico and Leo's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 1/5 - Nico is adjusting well to the new environment, people and pack. He's already out in the big pack playing and having a blast!
  • 1/11 - Nico got some good obedience work in today, with a particular focus on coming when called. (Recall). He did an excellent job! He's also been doing really well out in the run with the pack during socialization time.
  • 1/15 - Nico had been giving us problems when it’s time to come back inside from the dog run but his behavior has quickly improved and will now come inside when told. Nico and Walle also went on a walk together and they both behaved perfectly.
  • 1/18 - Leo is ADORABLE! He is fitting in well with the pack, and is gaining confidence. Such a sweetie!
  • 1/19 - Nico and Leo have taken an interest in the hose lately. One of Leo's favorite things to do in the dog run now is to chase the stream of water around from the hose.
  • 1/22 - Nico has shown a huge improvement with his obedience. We’ve gotten to the point where he will come whenever called and he no longer wants to escape when the pack goes out together. He’s also come along way when it comes to crating up. We’re at the point where he will come and crate up when offered a treat. Leo is doing great on his walks and he’s showing lots of interest in learning. He’s also been crating up when told. Nico is no longer barking at strangers when they enter the house, unless the whole pack is in on the ruckus. Leo was growling and barking at Mark's wife and son quite a bit at first, but has now gotten comfortable with them as well. We've noticed that he does get scared when you approach him from over the top of his head. We are working on problem solving this insecurity as he gets startled. Our current theory is that he may have a difficult time seeing the approaching hand due to droopy eyes.
  • 1/27 - Nico is showing a lot of improvement on his recall skills and he’s definitely learning to listen better. Leo has gotten a lot better at giving others personal space and has recently learned to “leave it” when told.
  • 2/3 - Nico and Leo continue to work on their obedience and socialization skills.
  • 2/5 - Nico and Leo still have some improving to do with their stranger reactivity but have still shown lots of progress on their reactivity when out on walks.
  • 2/7 - Nico and Leo met Jen today. The both did some grumbling at first, nervous with a stranger, but did well at calming down and adjusting to her presence, when told by Mark that she was okay and part of the pack. After a few minutes, Leo even did the classic mastiff lean for pets with Jen.
  • 2/8 - Both dogs have done tremendously well, Nico especially. They've met many different people and done quite well. Leo, being a teenage Mastiff, is still unsure at first, but warms up quickly when directed by a handler that the person is OK. This is normal for his age, and with continued training combined with neutering, I anticipate him growing into a sweet, yet stubborn family dog.
