Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Ruby's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 9/11 - Ruby is warming up to the new environment and is finally starting to eat again (as of this morning). Last night, she displayed some resource guarding at another dog and redirected at Mark as he gave her a correction. Today, she has been much calmer and even got outside with Drogo, Mark's Mastiff. She thought about giving a bit of attitude towards him at first, but thought better of it after a second, possibly based on his sheer size. Now the real work begins!
  • 9/14 - Ruby got out with the big pack over the weekend. At first, she was giving the group  a bit of attitude when they would come over to check her out. Mark quickly gave his two cents to Ruby on that and she did much better. Today, she was out with the group numerous times and while she wasn't overly excited to engage with them, she also didn't give them any attitude when they were near.
  • 9/16 - Ruby has done well with being handled by Jen, but went after Mark a couple of times today. Once, when she jumped into the herb garden by the run and he went to get her out and again when he was petting her and trying to calm her later. She received a couple of corrections from Mark for trying to bite him and is trying to learn her place in the big pack.
  • 9/18 - Ruby continues to grow in confidence around the pack. She still isn't interested in engaging in any type of play, but play does happen around her and she even gets bumped into without any negative reaction.
  • 9/21 - Ruby had a good walk today. She needed occasional reminding to heel, but not much. More importantly, we passed some dogs aggressively barking at the fence line and she listened to "Leave-It" and ignored them, walking by without issue. There was a small dog on leash who was coming towards us and she froze for a moment, refusing to listen, targeting the other dog. She got a slight correction, broke her focus on the other small dog and got back to her walk. Not bad, but still needs work. She did some obedience work in the training run today, working on Sit/Stay and Come and did well. Stay can use a little more work, but she did well with the others. She did an excellent job during her socialization outings and is even tolerating the puppy in her face without snapping.
  • 9/22 - Another group of small dogs barked aggressively at their fence line during today's walk. Ruby was interested in them, but did an excellent job of listening to "Leave-It" and passed them by without any issue. She's been great in the office around feeding time. No outbursts around food and she hasn't had any issues in the run with the pack around play, space or the water bowls.
  • 9/23 - A fantastic walk today, albeit a little wet! We passed a couple of small dachshunds on leash, about 8 feet away who barking barking aggressively at Ruby. Again, she showed a bit of interest, but listened to "Leave-It" perfectily and refocused on the walk without any issues. So proud of her!
  • 9/25 - A new dog has joined the pack and Ruby has done an excellent job of adjusting to the additional friend, without any issues. Excellent work little miss!
  • 10/1 - Big step in the right direction for Ruby today! While out playing in the pack she picked up a stick, and when I approached her to tell her to drop it, she started to think about guarding her resource, but upon a "uh uh" warning, she dropped it and sat, allowing me to take it from her with zero issue! Good girl, Ruby!
