Ullr - Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Ullr's Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 9/30 - Ullr seems to be in the very rare percentage of dogs that takes the new environment in stride! He ate his breakfast, got out with the full pack and went to the bathroom in the run ALREADY! He was a bit nervous in the pack at first, but adjusted well and started being brave enough to sniff around at the other dogs and observe their play. Excellent work by the young pup today!
  • 10/1 - Ullr continues to impress with his adaptability! He's already exploring play with members of the pack!
  • 10/2 - Ullr has definitely settled in and is rocking his socialization skills with the other dogs. He's slowly warming up to Jen as well. We went on a good long walk and lunch today to work on some exposure and challenge the various skills involved with that. We need to work on his heeling, but his obedience with Sit and Stay while on the walk and at lunch were excellent. He even sniffed at some strangers and allowed the occasional quick pet.
  • 10/7 - Ullr continues to do extremely well with his socialization skills and hasn't met a dog in the pack that he doesn't want to try and play with! He is doing well with receiving trainer feedback during play when he's getting a little rough and will note the verbal correction and break away for a second. He's coming when called and is now eager to receive pets and attention from Jen and enjoys running between her legs while out romping around in the run.
  • 10/8 - Ullr had a great walk today! We went on a pack walk with his buddy Finnegan and he quickly got in step and held a good heel, with the occasional reminder. He did well following sit/stay commands as well. We went to the community center, where staff and kids wanted to say hi and Ullr calmly received pets from multiple people. He wasn't overly interested in the attention, but didn't shy away from it either. Great exposure work!
  • 10/14 - Another excellent walk today. Ullr is doing much better with his "Heel" and is even allowing the occasional stranger to get a quick pet in. He's not overly affectionate with random people, but isn't shying away from them either. His confidence in dogs and people has grown immensely in the last couple of weeks.
  • 10/15 - Ullr got a pack walk in with Cattledog buddy Eldon today. He did very well with his heel again. He had a lot of puppy personality today with wanting to stop and smell or pick up things in his mouth, so we worked "Leave-It" alot. He was stubborn with his sit command while out on walk, but that's often the case in a pack walk. They always are an extra challenge with the added distraction of another dog. The second half of the walk, he did much better with all obedience work. We also worked some short leash recall on the walk and both he and Eldon came every time when called. Excellent work!
  • 10/16 - Ullr worked on Basic Obedience commands and recall with buddy, Eldon. He does a great job already with obedience, so we added the challenge of listening with another dog around. Ullr is extremely treat motivated and rocked the obedience and recall work. He was a little mouthy for the treats at first, both grabbing from trainer and wanting to snatch treats from Eldon, so we worked on "Leave-It" as well. He was flawless with his recall, although at first he wanted to jump up at the trainer to finish his "come" so we worked on finishing with a "Sit" on his recall exercise and he caught on extremely quickly!
  • 10/18 - Ullr can be quite the wild child, especially when he's received a lot of praise for a job well done. Jen cradled him like a baby after he jumped up excitedly and nipped at her chin. He completely turned into a love blob in that position. Adorable and hilarious at the same time!
  • 10/21 - Ullr went through all of his obedience work today and rocked it! His down needs some more work as it is taking the treat lure to get him into position still, but overall, excellent work. He's extremely treat motivated, which is a great tool, but we want to work on getting him to appreciate praise and affection as a reward just as much, if not more.
  • 10/22 - Ullr had a new friend come into the pack today and wasted no time in getting down to the playing! He's become such a social butterfly with all of the dogs!
  • 10/23 - Ullr is doing so much better with his walks, heeling better and listening to instructions and feedback. He still gets excited to see small animals like squirrels, but is now listening to "Leave-It" and not trying to chase after them. He worked on his basic obedience skills in home at lunch today, holding a Sit/Stay or Down/Stay while Jen ate. Excellent work. Then he got some snuggle time in on the floor. Such a wonderful boy!
  • 10/24 - Ullr took a walk to help pick up Mark's son today and met a couple of kids along the way. He's starting to come out of his shell with strangers. He sat as a little girl gave him pets today and then gave her a kiss on the chin! He also hung out with Mark's kid Liam on the walk and helped him look out onto the baseball field, receiving some pets from Liam in the meantime. Adorable!
  • 10/27 - Ullr is such a sweet, wonderful boy! He has grown by leaps and bounds in his socialization, but it is imperative that this is continued upon returning home to make sure that we help mitigate his natural, aloof, personality. He is welcome back to our pack at any point in time. He will be sorely missed!
