Zeus- Training Photos, Videos and Updates

Pawsitive Notes - Tracking Zeus' Milestones

Got a Question?

  • 7/6 - Zeus is adjusting to the new environment. He shows occasional reactivity at dogs passing by his crate, but he's warmed up quite nicely to Jen!
  • 7/7 - Zeus continues to grow in confidence in his new environment. He still is having occasional outbursts at dogs passing his crate, but that seems to be somewhat diminishing. He's getting quite vocal with his displeasure when another dog gets taken out into the run or someone leaves the office. We are working on "Quiet" with him in these situations. He's really opened up to Jen and is constantly trying to get her to rough house with him out in the run. However, he's doing a good job of listening to commands out there as well.
  • 7/8 - Zeus is still having reactivity at dogs passing by his crate. The higher energy the dog, the more reactivity he shows. We are working on "Quiet" and "Leave-It" in these situations.
  • 7/10 - Zeus is getting slightly better at his reactivity towards dogs around his crate. Today, he allowed a couple of the lower energy ones to stop and sniff at him without any issues. We are still struggling with the higher energy ones however. He had a blast playing ball today too!
  • 7/13  - Zeus is still giving a bit of attitude on occasion at other dogs in the office and barking when others go out and he gets left inside. We are working hard on "Quiet" and acclimation around other dogs to get to the next stage of working and socializing with others.
  • 7/15 - Zeus got out on a pack walk today. Immediately coming into the run, he lunged aggressively at the other dog and earned a correction. He attempted again and received another, to which he paid more attention to. We were then able to take a walk, with Zeus challenging the boundaries a couple of times and getting reminders to "Leave-It" with the other dog. After that, he fell into the rhythm of what was happening and did a better job at keeping space. Zeus got out on leash with Mark's dogs, Rodeo and Drogo. He did well at first, allowing and giving smells, but after a few minutes, he went after Drogo and got corrected. After that, he gave Drogo a wide berth. We'll keep working on it.
  • 7/18 - Zeus is still displaying a lot of reactivity around his crate, especially with Mark's dog, Drogo. He's also been very vocal, barking his displeasure at being left behind when other dogs get to go out and work in the run on their various training issues.
  • 7/21 - Zeus got out on leash with Rodeo and Drogo today and didn't have any reactivity issues! Huge progress today. He even sat on command a number of times right next to one or both of the boys. So proud of him today!
  • 7/24 - Zeus continues to work with Mark's dogs and work on impulse control around them.
  • 7/27 - Zeus continues his work and showed some calming signs today. Normally, he's a little ball of crazy energy out in the run and today, he was taking moments to just relax!
  • 7/28 - Perhaps his calmness yesterday was due to the extreme heat, because this morning he had some intense, unprovoked outbursts again at a couple of the dogs passing by his crate. He's a stubborn boy, but we'll continue to help him understand that he's safe and needed act out like that, all while challenging his comfort zones and pushing those boundaries for growth.
  • 7/31 - Zeus has been a bit better the past few days again, listening to verbal commands when dogs pass by his crate and he starts to show his intensity. He's really showing an understanding on the commands out in the run as well. Slow to progress, he's such a stubborn boy. But he is making steps and such a complete love bug, one on one.
  • 8/5 - Zeus got out, off leash, with Rodeo and Drogo today. He wasn't too keen in trying to interact however and spent most of the time sitting by the gate. The good news is that he didn't attempt to lunge at them if they mulled around.
  • 8/7 - Zeus was out off leash with Drogo again and this time was a bit more interactive, sniffing Drogo and allowing Drogo to sniff him without any negative reactions. Progress!
  • 8/10 - Zeus continues to work with Rodeo and Drogo. He also shows a bit more interest with the other dogs in the office as they pass by, but still can be a little over zealous in his enthusiasm when they come near.
  • 8/12 - Zeus is doing well with Rodeo and Drogo, but still isn't overly active with them. We are hoping to see a bit more engagement to signal to us that he might be ready to try interacting with some of the other pack members, but we just haven't quite gotten there. We'll keep continuing the exposure work and hopefully he'll get to that next level. He's being appropriate with the boys though, which is excellent!
  • 8/14 - While Zeus hasn't made it out into the pack yet, the pack has grown, which means a lot more commotion in the office, coming in and out at once. This is very stimulating to Zeus and he can be very animated, but to his credit, he's only displaying excitability thus far, instead of the traditional reactivity. He's been doing a good job out in the run with the boys as well, getting braver in his interactions with them.
  • 8/18 - Zeus has made it out into the big pack! He did extremely well this morning. No reactivity issues at all and he even made a couple of friends and began engaging in play! This afternoon, another dog got a little bossy with him going out into the run and they almost had a bit of a kerfuffle, but Mark stepped in quickly and set the record straight for both of them. After that, all was well and a bit later, they even engaged in some play. He really warmed up to Rosie, the Golden Retriever today, and was completely infatuated in both playing with her, grooming her and getting as close as possible. So adorable!
  • 8/21 - Zeus continues to do well in the pack! High energy transitions, like the group going in and out of the office, can be a bit overwhelming for him and take his energy too far, so we let him out last and take him in first, so that we avoid those moments, for now, as he grows in his confidence engaging with the pack as a whole.
